Design + Build

With a background in a design–build approach, the office considers both the opportunities and viability of construction projects within the client’s budget through each step of the process. Because of our design-build experience, we can be very realistic about the viability and cost of different designs early in the Master Planning — Feasibility stage.

Plan + Program

Our accrued knowledge in educational design and construction helps us create master plans, feasibility studies, and budgets that help our schools reach their aspirations.

Working with a diverse group of schools over the years that serve communities from the Upper East Side to the South Bronx with a wide range of budgets has given us a wealth of experience to draw upon and helps us to better understand each school’s particular approach to teaching, learning, and community.

Research + Educate

As part of the firm’s interest in education, we engage in research and the public discourse about trends in education. We have been a featured speaker at Fit City: Promoting Physical Activity Through Design; LISC (Local Initiatives Support Corporation) hired us to write Creating Quality School-Age Child Care Space, a resource guide on the design of after-school centers.

Landscape + Sustainability

Space for our clients is often as limited as dollars are. We program “outdoor rooms” with intention as we do our buildings — gathering spaces for teachers and kids to interact in a less structured experience or waiting parents to gather or just offering a smaller scale space where students can have a sense of privacy with oversight.
